Verzlunarskólablaðið is Iceland’s largest yearly publication, created by a student-led committee from the Commercial College of Iceland. Spanning 300 pages, it features celebrities and young voices, capturing the culture and conversations of its time. With a strong focus on quality, the book is designed to reflect the style and spirit of the year it is published.
For the 89th edition, I was responsible for the design and curation of the book. This included crafting the cover, structuring the interior layout, and developing a visual language that ties it all together. To bring the design to life, I also created a product video showcasing both the cover and the book’s content.
The goal was to create a book that feels fresh, tactile, and relevant—one that speaks to its audience while maintaining the legacy of this long-standing publication.
Raw & Striking
The book was designed to be bold, tactile, and effortlessly reflect the committees style. Inspired by clams and the pearls they produce, the four-sided cover shuts seamlessly with a magnetic closure, wrapped in two textured materials with a shimmering white finish.
Inside, the design takes cues from brutalism—structured, raw, and striking. A bold dark line runs through the pages, anchoring the layout with a strong, graphic presence. It’s clean but full of character.
Featuring interviews with celebrities and young voices, the book balances style and substance.
